Metallicizer w/ JK (@ancientjpeg)
Metallicizer is a comprehensive metallic sound design tool created by JK and modified by nthnblair in Max for Live.
Use Metallicizer to create punchy and futuristic percussion: from hollow wood to piercing metal. The core of the plugin relies on two main modules: a vocoder, and a Karpluss-Strong resonator. The vocoder bandpass filters are set to an extremely high Q, which creates a resonance in each band that lends an impressively realistic tonal quality to any content passed through. As the Q factor increases, so does the "decay" of these resonant filters. This is enhanced by the Karpluss-Strong module, which simply functions as a short-time high-feedback delay with a lowpass filter in the middle of the feedback circuit. To round things out, transient shaping and distortion give your percussion some additional thickness.
Control your sound with five knobs:
Jitter: Provides additional roughness and texture.
Punch: Sharpens transients and increases drive.
Frequency: Control cutoff frequencies for vocoder and physical modeling.
Decay: Adjust the resonance time.
Bands: Control the number of bands in the vocoder, which is useful for moving between simple wooden sounds and complex metallic ones.
